Drostanolone: History, structure and mechanisms of action
Drostanolone is an anabolic with a rich history and interesting chemical structure. It is a DHT-based chemical that was originally designed to treat breast cancers, hence a more commercial name for it: Masteron.
The DHT structure is complemented with additional changes, such as an added methyl chemical group attached onto the 2nd carbon point, which helps improve its potency and protect it from being broken down.
The DHT base also means that it doesn't partially convert to estrogen with metabolism and instead can actually act as an aromatase blocking agent, in order to help prevent this process, even without its agents taken at around the same time. It also has a high affinity for combining with androgen receptors, around 3 to 5 times that of conventional testosterone. These facts all may help augment results with other products and diversify its uses, an aspect that is discussed below.
Due to its efficient, fast-acting and moderately potent nature, Drostanolone is commonly used during periods close to a competitive event or show, where the main idea is to retain as much lean tissue and fitness attributes as possible, while concurrently reducing overall mass.
However, it is more potent than people give it credit for, and good results for mass gains have frequently been reported in those who combine its use with mass builders during phases where the overall objective was efficient and gradual increases in lean mass and strength. Its high tolerability also makes this a versatile drug with a range of potential uses that many bodybuilders, recreational or athletic users exploit.
Depending on the goal of its use, the phase in which its employed can last anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks, with some more experienced users even reporting longer periods of use.
Because of the relatively fast-release nature of the Drostanolone, due to its attached Propionate delivery agent, it is normally administered through intramuscular injection every second day, in order to keep levels of the agent in the body maximized for the highest impact possible. Amounts administered would range from 50 to 100 milligrams every second day for male users, depending on experience with these products. Meanwhile, female recreational or competitive users would normally employ around 100 milligrams per week.
However, with higher amounts and more prolonged use associated with recreational or competitive use comes the added chance of undesirable events occurring. These are reviewed in more detail below.
Drostanolone is far more tolerable, efficient, and safer than other anabolics on the market, but it is not without its share of potential side effects. However, some, such as the formalizing effects associated with a high androgenic impact, is obviously much lower due to its original design as a therapeutic agent for females.
This also carries through to other androgen-mediated effects like skin issues, such as oily skin, acne, and potential hair loss in those genetically predisposed.
However, issues like the suppression of endogenous testosterone manufacturing in male users, which necessitates exogenous supplementation to prevent deficiency-related problems and a good recuperative phase after use has ended, as well as stiffening of blood vessel walls, rising unhealthy cholesterol levels, and increased heart size are all still possible with its use.
So, these side effects should be carefully considered before simply jumping into the use of Drostanolone. Being aware of potential downsides of any anabolic can help you make an informed choice on purchasing the most appropriate product for you, and prepare to minimize the risks of above-mentioned issues, while using it in your program for more enjoyable and efficient results.
